Feeding a fasting person: does he have to be poor?

Feeding a fasting person: does he have to be poor?

Answer

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever feeds a fasting person will have his sins forgiven and saved from the hell-fire. He will earn the same reward as the one who has fasted without diminishing the latter’s reward in the slightest.” The Companions said, “Not all of us find that with which to feed a fasting person.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “God gives this reward to whoever breaks another’s fast, even if with a mouthful of milk, a date, or a sip of water.” This hadith highlights the reward of feeding a fasting person and the rank such a person has with God. Moreover, this hadith is general and does not restrict the reward to feeding only the poor.

And God the Almighty knows best.
