A woman carrying a Mushaf in her purse during menstruation

Question

What is the ruling on a woman carrying a Mushaf in her purse during menstruation without touching or holding it in her hands?

Answer

The majority of scholars hold that only a pure person should touch or hold the Mushaf. However, if this is difficult for a person, or if he needs to carry or touch it while not in a state of purification, he should follow the opinion of the scholars to permit it. Whoever finds himself facing a hardship that makes his dealings or acts of worship difficult, may follow the more lenient opinion or the one that offers greater latitude, even if it differs from the position of the majority of scholars.

There is no objection to a woman carrying a purse containing a Mushaf during menstruation, because she is carrying the bag itself rather than the Mushaf. She should, however, avoid touching the it, as menstruation entails greater restrictions than major ritual impurity in which touching or directly carrying a Mushaf is prohibited.

And Allah Almighty knows best.
