Ruling on taking an endowed copy of the Quran from a mosque
Question
What is the ruling on a person who takes a copy of the Quran that has been provided as an endowment to a mosque for the sake of Allah? Is this permissible?
Answer
A person who takes a copy of the Quran that has been provided as an endowment (waqf) to a mosque and removes it from the premises commits a sin. This is because once a copy of the Quran has been dedicated as an endowment to a mosque for the sake of Allah, it becomes the property of the mosque. The ownership of the donor ceases as soon as he says, "I have endowed this copy of Quran to this mosque."
Based on this, it impermissible for anyone to take a copy of the Quran out of the mosque. However, a person does not incur sin if he takes a copy of the Quran to recite it without taking it outside the mosque and returns it to its designated place after completing his recitation. Rather, he will be rewarded for reciting the Noble Quran.
And Allah Almighty knows best.
