What are the qualities of a successful da’i?

An effective da’i (person who invites others to Islam) is one who wishes good for all people, hopes for their guidance as if they were his children or relatives, and is gentle and kind in his approach when calling them to the path of Allah Almighty. He is also one who shows others mercy even when they find themselves distant from their Lord. He understands that his responsibility is merely to convey the message, while true success comes solely from Allah Almighty.

He is also someone who wisely prioritizes, avoiding excessive emphasis on the outward at the expense of the inner reality. He distinguishes between the definitive matters that constitute the identity of Islam and those over which there is scholarly differences where following any sound opinion is permissible without reproach. He unites rather than divides and reconciles hearts instead of turning them away. He embraces ease in his call and is keen to follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
