Seeking the Prophet’s intercession

Question

What is the ruling on asking the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for intercession by saying, “Intercede for us, O Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon you and your family”?

Answer

There is no legal impediment to asking the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for his intercession by saying, “Intercede for us, O Messenger of Allah.” This means that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is our means to Allah Almighty through whom His acceptance of intercession may be sought. Jurists have affirmed the permissibility of seeking the Prophet’s intercession because he is our means, our Prophet whose intercession is accepted, and the one promised intercession and the Praiseworthy Station.[1] However, it is necessary to observe proper etiquette with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when addressing him in such a request.

And Allah Almighty knows best.
