What is the ruling regarding a man having marital relations with his wife during her postpartum period?

It is prohibited for a man to have sexual intercourse with his wife during either her menstrual or postpartum period, and it is likewise prohibited for her to consent to this. If, however, they do engage in sexual intercourse during either of these periods, they must both repent to Allah Almighty by regretting what they have done and resolving not to do it again. They must also seek the forgiveness of Allah Almighty in abundance and perform good deeds, particularly by giving in charity.
