Taking back one's donation towards the construction of a mosque

Question

A person donated a sum of money for the benefit of a mosque and later decided to withdraw his donation.

Answer

This donation is considered a waqf [endowment]. It is therefore impermissible for the endower to take it back after it ceased to be his property and was transferred to Allah's ownership.

Allah the Almighty knows best.
