Visiting Medina during Hajj and 'Umra

Question

I went for Hajj and on my way there I borrowed a sum of 500 SR. from my brother which I still did not repay. My brother has since passed away. Is my Hajj valid? How do I repay the debt?
I did not visit Medina.

Answer

Visiting al-Medina

Your Hajj is valid provided it fulfills its conditions and pillars which do not include visiting al-Medina. Although it is not among its rites, it is recommended to visit al-Medina since it is from the etiquette of Hajj and 'Umra.

Validity of the Hajj of an indebted person

The fact that you borrowed a sum of money from your brother which you still did not repay, does not invalidate your Hajj. You must repay the money to your brother's heirs—his wife, children or others as the case might be; each heir is to receive his legal share from the debt.

Allah Almighty knows best.
