Is it permissible to eat from a slaughtered animal without mentioning the name of God on it?

Question

Dear Sir,
Regarding slaughtering animals and chicken for meat, I know that in the USA they kill animals first and then they slaughter and hang them to drain there blood, but of course name of Allah is not mentioned upon that. I want to ask, is it necessary that this happens or the point is slaughtering so that the animal blood can be drained off the body? In other words am I allowed to eat from such meat in this case or not?
Thanks a lot, looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind Regards.

Answer

Killing the animal before slaughtering it renders its meat unlawful for consumption. However, it is permissible to subdue the animal without killing it before slaughtering. A Muslim should not judge anything so long as he did not see it. The principle in the meat slaughtered by the people of the Book (Ahl al-Kitab) is permissibility unless he is certain that the animal was killed without being slaughtered, the person who slaughtered it was not from among the people of the Book, or the meat is prohibited for human consumption.
