Egypt’s Mufti Reaffirms Palestinian People’s Cause is a Historical and Unwavering Right
The Grand Mufti of Egypt, Dr. Nazir ‘Ayyad, in the closing statement of the Second International Symposium of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, affirmed that the Palestinian cause remains a historical and unwavering right that does not lapse over time. He highlighted the Palestinian people’s steadfast commitment to their legitimate rights and called on the international community to act to halt aggression, protect civilians, and uphold Palestinian rights. He also reaffirmed Egypt’s firm and longstanding support for a fully sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
Dr. ‘Ayyad emphasized that disciplined and principled fatwas safeguard human dignity and address contemporary challenges. The symposium saw the launch of the “Charter of Fatwa and Human Dignity”, providing ethical and professional guidance for issuing fatwas while respecting cultural and social contexts. The Mufti also stressed the need for institutional cooperation, international collaboration, and leveraging technology to counter extremism, correct misconceptions, and promote a balanced religious discourse grounded in peace and coexistence.
The Second International Symposium of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, held in Cairo on 15–16 December 2025 under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, was convened under the theme “Fatwa and Contemporary Human Issues: Toward Sound Ijtihād that Responds to Contemporary Challenges.” The symposium brought together leading Muftis, scholars, and experts from across the globe to discuss the evolving role of fatwa in addressing pressing human and social realities.
