Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta 11th International Conference to Explore Individualism, Digital Isolation, and Challenges to Belonging

Scholars, muftis, and researchers from 80 countries will participate at the 11th International Conference of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide on September 2–3, 2026, under the theme: “Family Challenges amid Major Transformations.”

Held under the patronage of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the conference will examine the major transformations reshaping family life, values, relationships, and identity.

Key themes include modern individualism, its impact on family cohesion and shared responsibility; digital isolation, and its effects on human relationships, belonging, and social ties; as well as belonging and coexistence, with a focus on strengthening citizenship, dialogue, mutual respect, and social cohesion.

The conference will also address the social, cultural, economic, and technological transformations affecting the family, including their impact on marital relationships, family stability, and child-rearing. It will highlight the role of fatwa institutions and religious, cultural, and educational institutions in developing informed and practical responses to emerging challenges.

Through an interdisciplinary approach combining Islamic, human, and social sciences, the conference seeks to develop an integrated Iftaa framework capable of protecting the family, anticipating its future, and safeguarding its identity while engaging constructively with the realities of a rapidly changing world.

With its broad international participation, the conference will provide a global platform for dialogue on the future of the family and the evolving role of Iftaa institutions in addressing challenges that affect social stability and human well-being.
