The Grand Mufti stated: "relations between the Muslim and Western countries are based on partnership and not subservience"
Dr. Shawky Allam, the Grand Mufti of Egypt, received a delegation from the Royal Institute for East-West Strategic Studies led by John Edwin, its Executive Manager.
The Grand Mufti stressed that relations between the Muslim and Western countries is based on partnership and not subservience. “Egypt is on its way towards stability in spite of serious challenges,” he added.
He further added that the Egyptians expressed their will in the constitutional referendum and will soon complete their democratic entitlements in the coming presidential and parliamentary elections.
The Grand Mufti explained that Dar al-Ifta` represents true moderate Islam and translates its fatwas into nine languages.
Mr. Edwin expressed his hopes for the speedy prosperity and stability of Egypt because it is the key to regional stability. He said that indications confirm that Egypt has passed a critical period in its history though it currently faces serious challenges. “We seek to collaborate with Dar al-Ifta` to promote peace and resolve tensions in conflict zones such as Burma and Central Africa,” he added.
