Silver jewelry for men

Question

Is it permissible for men to wear silver jewelry?

Answer

It is permissible for men to wear silver jewelry as it was clearly stated by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that men are allowed to use silver and it is prohibited for them to wear gold and silk. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave a practical example on the use of silver by wearing a silver ring that he wore until he died. Also the first Caliph, Abu Bakr al Siddiq, wore the ring followed by ‘Umar ibn al- Khattab and ‘Uthman ibn Affan.

As for wearing other silver jewelry such as bracelets and the like, it is totally related to customary practices and it differs from one culture to another. In some cultures, it is perfectly permissible for men to wear silver jewelry without any social condemnation. In other cultures, wearing silver jewelry other than rings is deemed as an act of imitating women and, in this case, it becomes impermissible for men to wear them.

And God Almighty knows best.
