The inability to perform ablution

Question

What is the ruling for someone who is unable to perform ablution? An eighteen-year-old young man is asking how he can perform ablution and maintain ritual purity due to his physical condition. He suffers from a disability affecting both feet, his right hand, and partially his left hand. He lives in a foreign country with a family of nine, including his father. He does not have any money or property that would enable him to pay for a caregiver or helper to assist him with ablution or purification.

Answer

Allah Almighty says, “And He has not placed upon you in the religion any hardship” (Quran, 22: 78).
In addition, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “If I forbid you from doing something, then avoid it; and if I command you to do something, then do as much of it as you can” (Bukhari). Based on this, whoever is unable to perform ablution should perform dry ablution (tayammum), and whoever is unable to perform either one is exempt from performing both. Such a person is referred to as "one who lacks both means of purification."

In the case mentioned above, as long as this young man is unable to perform ablution, whether on his own or with assistance, he should perform dry ablution. If he cannot do that either, then he is not blameworthy for praying without either form of purification, and his prayer remains valid.

And Allah Almighty knows best
