Responsibility for the expenses of preparing the deceased for burial
Question
Who is responsible for bearing the expenses of preparing the deceased for burial?
Answer
It is established that the expenses of preparing the deceased for burial are to be taken from his estate if he has left any wealth. If not, the responsibility passes to those who are legally required to support him. If none exist, the Public Treasury (Bayt al-mal) is responsible. If this too is not available, the obligation falls upon all Muslims who learn of the death and are capable of bearing the expenses, as it then becomes a communal obligation (farḍ kifayah).[1]
And Allah Almighty knows best.
