Women visiting graves and the question of whether the deceased rejoice at family visits
Question
A female inquirer asks, “I have only visited my father’s grave a few times, and my circumstances do not permit regular visits. Am I required to visit frequently? Is it true that the deceased feel happy when visited by their family?”
Answer
Islamic law permits women to visit graves, provided that they observe the proper Islamic etiquette of modesty and composure, and that the purpose of the visit is reflection and admonition. Therefore, you may visit your father whenever you are able. It has been reported in non-prophetic narrations that the deceased rejoice at being visited of their family and are pleased by it.
And Allah Almighty knows best.
