Praying and fasting with pre-menstrual black discharge

Question

What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding a black discharge that occurs a week or five days before the menstrual period? And what is the ruling on praying and fasting in Ramadan when a dark, coffee-colored discharge appears that is not menstrual blood?

Answer

According to jurists, dark, coffee-colored blood that appears a week or five days before the menstrual period is considered one of the recognized colors of menstrual blood. Accordingly, it should be regarded as the beginning of the menstrual period as long as the blood flows naturally. It is therefore prohibited to pray or fast until the bleeding ceases, either at the end of the usual menstrual period or after a maximum of ten days. If this occurs during Ramadan, the missed fasts must be made up, but not the prayers.

And Allah Almighty knows best.
