What is the ruling on a breastfeeding woman refraining from fasting during Ramadan?

It is established in Islamic law that a pregnant or breastfeeding woman may refrain from fasting during Ramadan if she fears harm to herself or her baby. She is, however, required to make up the days later, as breastfeeding constitutes one of the excuses recognized by Islamic law that permit refraining from fasting, by analogy with the rulings applicable to the sick and the traveler.
