Does the intention of disbelief make someone a non- Muslim?

Question

I hope you are well. I have a question regarding faith.

If a Muslim has a thought of disbelief (Kufr) in his head and later he thinks to himself about this thought and without intention of Kufr he says in his mind (not verbally) ' I had/have intention of Kufr , but really as he says this in his mind, he actually does not have intention of Kufr.

Does this make him a non- Muslim?

Answer

Honorable brother,

This is a sort of Satan's whispers (waswasa). A Muslim must be certain that certainty about the Islam of someone cannot be removed easily [by doubt]. It is impermissible for a Muslim to attribute kufr to himself easily. You must make remembrance of Allah (dhikr) and invoke peace and blessings on the Prophet (peace be upon him) in abundance.
