Is it permissible to recite the Qur`an without ablution?

There is no objection to reciting the Qur`an without ablution or reading from a copy of the Qur`an without ablution provided one does not touch it. God the Almighty says:

None touch it except the purified. [Qur`an 56: 79]

The Prophet, upon him blessings and peace, used to recite the Qur`an in any state except when he was in a state of major ritual impurity (Janaba).
