Is eating crab permissible?

All kinds of sea food is permissible except for that which is specifically prohibited by a scriptural text or is proved to be harmful for health. This is based on the generality of the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who said: “Its water is pure and its dead animals are lawful to eat.”
And God the Almighty knows best.
