Eating hunted pigeons

Question

Is it permissible to eat hunted pigeons?

Answer

It is perfectly permissible to hunt and shoot birds for food except when in a state of ihram (state of pilgrim sanctity) for hajj (pilgrimage) or umrah (lesser pilgrimage). Moreover, it is not permissible to hunt within the Haram i.e. the area that surrounds the Ka’bah.

Generally, it is impermissible to eat all birds except birds of prey. If you bring down a bird, you should slaughter it if it is still alive to relieve its pain. Your shot might have injured it and incapacitated it from flying, but it could live with that injury for a long time. It is more merciful to slaughter it. If it dies as a result of the shot, it is still permissible to eat.

And God Almighty knows best.
