Eating seafood

Question

Is it permissible to eat seafood?

Answer

All kinds of seafood is permissible except for that which is specifically prohibited by a text or is proved to be harmful for health. This is based on the general implication of the words of God on water animals, “It is permitted for you to catch and eat seafood” (Quran 5: 96) and the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who said, “Its water [sea water] is pure and its dead animals are lawful to eat.” In addition, God Almighty says, “[Prophet], say, ‘In all that has been revealed to me, I find nothing forbidden for the people to eat, except for carrion, flowing blood. Pig’s meat—it is loathsome—or a sinful offering over which any name other than God’s has been invoked” (Quran 6: 145).

The ruling
The principle in eating seafood is permissibly unless it is proved otherwise.
And God Almighty knows best.
