Painting T-shirts with Quranic verses on them, is it permissible?
The original status of dealing with Quranic verses is based on preservation and conservation accompanied with paying respect to the sacred text along with keeping its sanctity intact. Therefore painting Quranic verses on the seats of the chairs for people to sit on, or on the tiles of the floor where people would walk on or in any other places which are not designated as highly esteemed or which are used for daily consumption such as painting them on clothes; all these examples are among the acts which may not be considered preserving and respectful and therefore is deemed disliked.
Although we do not favor the position of painting Quranic verses on T-shirts or the like out of preservation and sanctity, there is a room for further discussion and the act could not be deemed prohibited unless the intention of deliberate desecration is in place.
Painting Quranic verses is deemed permissible if it meant for decorating ceilings and walls such as in mosques for purposes of embellishments. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Allah is beautiful and He loves beauty.” Also it could be a way of reminding people of Allah’s sacred words which is also permissible.
