The Grand Mufti of Egypt, Dr. Shawqi Allam, announced today in a press conference at Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta an initiative to counter Islamophobia in the West in the wake of the Paris attacks. He said that the initiative is directed toward non-Arabs in the various world countries and will operate through a number of mechanisms to expound the true teachings of Islam. “We face many internal and external challenges,” he said. “This is a matter which necessitates increasing cooperation between all countries on all levels.”

Dr. Shawqi added that extremist fatwas are one of the reasons behind terrorist operations; consequently they should be tackled with evidences and expose their error.

The Advisor to the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Dr. Ibrahim Negm, said that Dar al-Ifta` has launched a Facebook page called “Not In The Name Of Muslims” in English, French and German as the first step to counter Islamophobia. He added that the time has come to speak directly with the other, correct the true image of Islam, and participate in putting an end to Islamophobia.
