Egypt’s Grand Mufti Delivers Key Speech in Maldives International Conference on Fatwa

Sunday, July 8, 2018
In his key speech delivered in the international conference on the role of fatwa in promoting peace, currently held in the Maldives, Egypt’s Grand Mufti, Dr. Shawki Allam, stated that Islam is a religion of peace, security and justice. Islam was not spread by the sword, as the terrorist groups falsely claim. Rather, Islam established the rules and principles for coexistence with followers of different faiths across different contexts, times, and places, allowing Muslims to integrate and live in perfect harmony with the other.
In his speech, Dr. Allam presented Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta experiment in promoting the sound teachings of Islam and combating extremism through the establishment of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide.
“The world is in dire need of dialogue and cooperation platforms based on firmly established principles and sound religious knowledge and this is the major role of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide,” Dr. Allam stated.
The Grand Mufti started his official visit to the Maldives earlier on Friday as he delivered the Friday sermon at the capital’s grand mosque.
