The Grand Mufti of Egypt, Dr. Shawki Allam, received a delegation from “Berghof” German Foundation headed by Professor Hans J. Giessmann, Executive Director. Dr. Allam discussed with the delegation that included Sonja Neuweiler, Co-Director Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Firas Khairallah, Berghof Foundation’s representative in Lebanon and Radwa Salah, project manager, the means towards enhancing cooperation in combating extremism.

The Grand Mufti stated that Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta exerts tireless efforts at all levels to combat extremism. These include, but are not limited to, making use of cyber-space and issuing an E-magazine in English titled “Insight” to respond to Daesh’s “Dabiq”.

“We communicate with the Imams of Muslim communities in the West and provide them with the necessary training in light of moderate sound Shari’ah methodologies to encounter extremist ideologies and Islamophobia,” Dr. Allam said. From his part, Dr. Giessmann praised the efforts of

Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta and confirmed that combating terrorism has become a necessity that requires an international cooperation among the world’s nations.
