Egypt's Grand Mufti, Dr. Shawki Allam, called on the international community as well as international and regional organizations to immediately intervene and stop the Israeli violations committed against Jerusalem.

In a news statement issued on the occasion of commemorating the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinians, Dr. Allam called on the international community to support the Palestinians in their struggle to reclaim their legitimate rights and to establish an independent sovereign state of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.

He warned of continued Israeli plans to Judaicise the occupied holy city and the rest of the Palestinian territories, and stressed the importance of educating the Arab and Muslim youth on the true roots of the issue of Palestine and on the fact that it has historically been an Arab state.

It is worthy to mention that in 1977 The UN General Assembly called for observing 29 November as the annual International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
