Egypt’s Grand Mufti, Dr. Shawki Allam, received on Wednesday a high-level Malaysian delegation to discuss means of fostering mutual religious cooperation. The delegation, headed by Dr. Sahruddin Jamal, chief minister of state of Johor, combined a number of senior Malaysian religious leaders.

Dr. Allam confirmed during the meeting that Egypt and Malaysia share old historical relations that date back to the thirties of the 20th century, especially in the religious aspects.

“Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta has already received Malaysian students who finished their training on Fatwa issuance and we are completely ready to provide all necessary scholarly support to train Muftis in the Malaysian state of Johor,” the Grand Mufti said.

The Malaysian delegation praised Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta efforts in combating radical ideologies and expressed interest in providing Malaysian Muftis with necessary training on fatwa issuance and to benefit from the Dar’s experience in this respect.
