Surgery to stop menstruation in a girl with disabilities

Question

The inquirer states, “My daughter is disabled, and I would like her to undergo a medical procedure to stop her periods, as she does not understand them and to prevent any harm to her. I am 60 years old and diabetic, and I do not know who will care of her after I pass away. Kindly provide me with the ruling of Islamic law

Answer

Such a procedure is impermissible except in cases where it is necessary to prevent certain harm to the girl, as determined by a trustworthy physician based on the Islamic legal maxim: “Harm is to be removed.” However, mere fear of harm based on her inability to understand, is not a valid reason for such a procedure as it constitutes a violation of the girl’s bodily integrity and womanhood.  In response to the inquirer, we say that Allah is the Protector, and He will protect your daughter from all harm. So, put your trust in Allah, perhaps He will bring about her cure.

And Allah Almighty knows best.
