Divorcing a wife from the People of the Book

Question

A Muslim man married a woman from the People of the Book through a marriage contract that was valid under Islamic law. After consummating the marriage and living with her as husband and wife, he divorced her. Does he have the right to divorce her in this case?

Answer

It is permissible for a Muslim man to divorce his wife if their marriage was validly contracted, whether she is Muslim or from the People of the Book, regardless of whether the marriage has been consummated.
