ign: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; unicode-bidi: embed; direction: ltr">We reviewed request no. 2089 for the year 2008 which includes the following:
1.   How is the meat of slaughtered animals distributed?
2.   Is it permissible for the owner to eat from it?

Answer

Animals are slaughtered as sacrifice, 'aqiqa [sacrifice offered on the birth of a child], for a marriage feast or any other occasion. It is permissible to eat from the meat of animals sacrificed on the previously mentioned occasions. But if the sacrifice is made in fulfillment of a vow, the entire animal is given to the impoverished and the needy and its owner is not to eat from it.
