Egypt’s Grand Mufti Meets Deputy Uzbek Ambassador to Strengthen Religious and Academic Cooperation

Dr. Nazir Mohammed Ayad, Grand Mufti of Egypt and President of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, received Mr. Durbek Kholbekov, Deputy Ambassador of Uzbekistan in Cairo, to discuss avenues for enhancing mutual religious and academic cooperation. The meeting underscored the deep historical and fraternal ties between Egypt and Uzbekistan. The Grand Mufti commended Uzbekistan’s rich intellectual and cultural heritage, affirming that Dar al-Ifta is open to all initiatives that support Islam and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among Muslim nations. He also highlighted the institution’s leading role in promoting moderation and confronting extremist ideologies through its specialized research centers and strategic initiatives.

From his part, Mr. Kholbekov expressed his appreciation for the esteemed status of Egypt in the Islamic world and praised Dar al-Ifta’s efforts in advancing religious understanding and combating extremism. He emphasized Uzbekistan’s respect for the institution’s scholarly leadership and expressed a strong desire to deepen collaboration across various fields, benefiting from Dar al-Ifta’s extensive expertise in fatwa issuance, religious education, and community engagement.
