Egypt's Mufti Stresses the Value of Imam Bukhari's Sahih
On the sidelines of his participation in the international conference Al-Jamiʿ al-Musnad al-Sahih of Imam al-Bukhari: A Book of the Ummah and a Scholarly Manifestation of the Civilization of Isnād and Authentication in Uzbekistan, His Eminence Dr. Nazir Mohamed Ayyad, Grand Mufti of Egypt and President of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, affirmed that Sahih al-Bukhari is far more than a collection of hadith. It stands as a lasting embodiment of the Islamic civilization of isnād (chain of transmission) and scholarly authentication, reflecting a rigorous methodology that anticipated many modern standards of verifying information.
Dr. Ayyad stressed that contemporary attacks on Sahih al-Bukhari ultimately seek to undermine the authority of the Prophetic Sunnah and should be met through sound academic research rather than emotional reactions or unquestioning acceptance. He also called for renewed investment in hadith studies and greater efforts to introduce younger generations to the science of isnād, helping to strengthen a culture of verification, scholarly rigor, and confidence in Islam’s authentic intellectual heritage.
