Does Islam permit the cremation of the dead?
Answer:
In Islamic law, the cremation of the dead is impermissible for the sake of respecting the dignity of the human being and preserving him from harm. The dead gets hurt from whatever hurts the person who is alive according to the Prophetic hadith. Death in Islam is not considered turning to non existence but it is simply a transfer from one life to another. Therefore the sanctity of the human being during his life remains the same after he dies and for this reason the Prophet said, “Breaking the bones of a dead person is similar to breaking it while he is alive”.
