The Foreign Affairs Minister, Nabil Fahmy, received in his office the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Dr. Shawky Allam. During the meeting, Dr. Shawky and Mr. Fahmy signed a protocol of cooperation between Dar al-Iftaa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to develop joint initiatives and projects with the aim of maximizing Egypt’s foreign role and image before the international community.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the ministry will put all of its capabilities in the service of Dar al-Iftaa to facilitate delivering its moderate message to all parts of the world. He praised the distinguished efforts, initiatives, and projects launched by Dar al-Iftaa and described them as representing a soft power for Egypt in world countries.

Meanwhile, the Grand Mufti highlighted the significant role of the noble Azhar and Dar al-Iftaa in spreading the message of moderate Islam and coexistence. He added that Dar al-Iftaa puts all of its scholarly capabilities in the service of both Islam and Egypt. He furthermore praised the ministry’s willingness to take part in promoting religious cooperation and training the scholars of Dar al-Iftaa.

The protocol also included an agreement to organize visits for scholars, fatwa trustees, and senior researchers from Dar al-Iftaa to spread the moderate teachings of Islam and issue religious edicts to Egyptian communities living abroad.

The two sides outlined a project of ‘Fatwa Encyclopedia’ issued by Dar al-Iftaa in African languages, Russian, English, and French along with programs to train African religious leaders in the Nile Basin countries.

The meeting was attended by the spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Badr Abdul-‘Aty; the Director of the Institute for Diplomatic Studies, Ambassador Alaa` al-Hadidi; and the Advisor to the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Dr. Ibrahim Nejm.
