Replying to a question on the status of hijab in Islam, Egypt's Grand Mufti, Dr. Shawki Allam stated during his meeting at Misr University for Science and Technology on Wednesday, that it is obligatory for every adult sane Muslim woman.
He confirmed that this ruling is established in the Quran, Sunnah, and by the consensus of the Muslim community (Ijma).
"There is no certain fashion for hijabi women to abide by; rather, hijab means to cover her entire body save the face and hands, it should not be transparent or cling to the body," Dr. Allam said. He added that the issue of garments is decided according to the customs and traditions of every country.
