Commemorating International Day for Ifta, General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide addresses role of fatwa in promoting SDGs

The General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide commemorates on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 the International Day for Ifta under the theme, “The Role of Fatwa in Promoting Sustainable Development”.

“This year’s theme reflects a noble goal that Islamic law substantiates and comes under its main objectives to develop the earth,” Dr. Ibrahim Negm, Mufti’s Senior Advisor and Secretary-General for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide stated in a news statement. We are in a dire need of addressing the challenges facing the environment in our time and raising public awareness on the mechanisms of preserving it from Islamic perspective, Dr. Negm added.

Towards this aim, the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide dedicates the coming few days to launching online campaigns on social media and holding virtual meetings with fatwa institutions and authorities worldwide to address the role of fatwa in promoting and enhancing sustainable development, environment issues, climate change and investigating the role of religious institutions in handling these issues.

December 15 was purposefully chosen to coincide with the day of the establishment of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide in December 2015.
