Answer
Dear sister,
We thank you deeply for opening up your heart to us and for entrusting us with your question. We are rather surprised that your interpretation of the woman’s hijab is an obligatory act to serve men. Hijab is actually serving totally the opposite purpose. It is a way of empowering women and to rise her status above the mere focus on her sexuality. Women and men in all societies dress differently which is a universal reality and it is also a known fact that there is a heavy emphasis on the woman’s body and how they are dressed. Hijab comes to make a strong statement for equality between men and women as it voices the woman’s intellectual capacity as a human being away from the usual objectifying and sexualizing of the woman’s body. Women should not be demonized for their femininity and be reduced to sexual objects or fall prey to some ill-hearted men and their lustful desires. Hijab is a sign of modesty and humbleness and it is a symbol for empowerment of women as an intellectual human being worthy of respect, dignity and honor.
