During his meeting with the Italian ambassador to Egypt: The Grand mufti of Egypt calls for a true national reconciliation stressing that the religious establishment in Egypt will not abandon its national role

The Grand mufti of Egypt, Dr. Shawqi Allam, stressed the necessity of a true comprehensive national reconciliation among the different factions in Egypt to escape the great challenges facing the nation during this time.

During his meeting with the Italian ambassador in Cairo Maurizio Massari, Dr. Allam added that the religious establishment, especially Al-Azhar, will not abandon its national role during such a critical time in Egypt’s history. He said that the religious establishment will exert a greater effort in the coming period for the sake of unity and stability. He called upon all of the political forces to set aside their differences and promote the nation’s higher interests.

He added that Dar al-Ifta is contributing towards promoting sound religious awareness among all factions of the society to establish a culture of respecting law and encouraging cooperation towards public interests.

Dr. Shawqi further stressed the collective responsibility of getting out of the challenges facing Egypt and how each party must do its part in the optimal manner to rescue Egypt in such turbulent and challenging times.

Mr. Maurizio Massari said that the Italian government considers Egypt its most important economic partner in the region and that it is committed to giving it its full political and economic support. The Italian ambassador said that Italy calls upon European countries, the International Monetary Fund, and the European Union to support Egypt, stressing their great confidence in the Egyptian religious establishment, especially Al-Azhar and Dar al-Ifta, and in its ability to lead a national reconciliation and spread a culture of tolerance and peace both in Egypt and the world at large.
