Dr. Shawqy Allam the grand mufti of Egypt condemned arresting Sheikh\ Muhammad Hussien the mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine from his house on Wednesday Morning. He condemned the Israeli occupation forces transgressions against al-Aqsa mosque and preventing people from praying there.

The grand mufti stressed that Muslim scholars have respect and dignity and this step from Israeli occupation forces doesn’t serve the peace process which they claim to reach. Moreover, it is considered an assault against divine religions, violation of international treaties which guarantee freedom of worship and attack against one of the Palestinian religious authorities.

The grand mufti demanded Israeli authorities to release Sheikh\ Muhammad Hussien the mufti of Jerusalem immediately, stop transgressing al-Aqsa mosque and open it to Palestinian people. He emphasized; these hostile practices from the Israeli occupation army will increase tensions between Israel and Palestine and may lead to violence between both sides.

Dr. Shawqy Allam called upon human rights organizations to interfere immediately to stop Israeli transgressions for Palestinian sanctuaries and brutality towards clergymen and the Palestinian people especially in Jerusalem.
