MY husband thinks It’s Ok for him to lie as long as he expiates by feeding 10 people. What should I tell him?

Question

Asalamo alaikom -
My husband lies on two separate occasions he held the Quran and swore that he did not do something whereas I'm sure he did. Recently I watched a fatwa from an Al Azharmofty who said that a person can be forgiven for swearing on the Quran by feeding 10 poor people. Now my husband thinks it's OK to swear & lie as long as he feeds 10 people. What should I tell him?

Answer

The expiation for breaking an oath is prescribed only for swearing to do or not to do something and then one involuntarily brreaks his oath. However, making a false oath has no expiation except sincere repentance to Allah. This is because making a false oath is from among the greatly prohibited major sins. Making a false oath is known in Arabic as (Yameen Ghamus) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) warned us against. He said that false oath pushes its doer into Hellfire.
