Plans for cooperation between the European Parliament and Egypt's Dar al-Ifta
The Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, Mr. Elmar Brok, met with the Advisor to the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Dr. Ibrahim Negm, on the margin of Dr. Negm’s visit to the European Parliament to promote cooperation between the European Parliament and Egyt's Dar al-Ifta.
Dr. Negm said that Egypt's Dar al-Ifta is an active participant in all international events and its role is to spread awareness on fatwa related matters. He expressed Dar al-Ifta`’s willingness to cooperate in clarifying the image of Islam and to offer its experience to the European Parliament on fatwa related issues.
Dr. Negm added that Muslim presence in Europe is positive for all parties and that Western society must understand that Muslims living in the West seek to integrate in the societies they live in while preserving their Muslim identity and their rights as citizens.
Mr. Brok praised Dar al-Ifta`’s efforts to clarify the truth about Islam which has become tarnished by extremists.
