The Grand Mufti described the Egyptian-Iraqi relations as historical and distinguished. On a question regarding the new constitution, the Grand Mufti said that the draft constitution represents all factions of the society and mentioned al-Azhar’s role in helping bring about an agreement on contended articles.

The ambassador of Iraq expressed his appreciation for the role of al-Azhar in preserving the unity of Egypt and the Arab and Islamic community. He also said that Iraq seeks to preserve relations with Egypt and its institutions at the head of which is Dar al-Ifta through the various mechanisms of cooperation. This encounter came during the visit of the Ambassador of Iraq in Cairo, Diya` al-Dabbas, to the office of the Grand Mufti in Cairo.
