Bukhari :: Book 1 :: Volume 12 :: Hadith 764
Narrated Rifa'a bin Rafi AzZuraqi:
One day we were praying behind the Prophet. When he raised his head from bowing, he said, "Sami'a-l-lahu Liman hamida." A man behind him said, "Rabbana walaka-l hamd hamdan Kathiran taiyiban mubarakan fihi" (O our Lord! All the praises are for You, many good and blessed praises). When the Prophet completed the prayer, he asked, "Who has said these words?" The man replied, "I." The Prophet said, "I saw over thirty angels competing to write it first." Prophet rose (from bowing) and stood straight till all the vertebrae of his spinal column came to a natural position.

Three years ago, a mosque was erected in a village and prayers have since been held there. The mosque's qibla was determined following the qibla direction in the other village mosques. A dispute arose in January 2004 concerning its accuracy and an engineer from the regional office of the Ministry of Religious Trusts was summoned to determine its proper direction. He determined a new direction which further sparked another dispute between the villagers, dividing them into two groups: one preferring to follow the original qibla and the other favoring the newly determined direction. We would like a clarification on this issue and which of the two directions to face when praying. ?

Background
Some Egyptian Muslims living in Greece managed, by the grace of Allah Almighty, to build a mosque. It is of course impermissible to use loudspeakers to make the adhan [call to prayer] or raise the volume for any other purpose. About five months ago, the number of the mosque goers started to decrease owing to a fatwa issued by a young man stating that it is not necessary to go to the mosque to perform congregational prayers as long as one does not hear the adhan. This man based his fatwa on a hadith in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded a blind man to attend congregational prayers at the mosque as long as he can hear the adhan.

There are two adjacent mosques in our village, each containing a shrine of a friend of Allah. More than one person tried to alert him to his mistake by saying "subhan Allah" but he did not heed their gesture and proceeded to pray the fifth rak'a. He then made a prostration of forgetfulness after the fifth rak'a and closed the prayer.
